Ecogest wins contract from Anas for extraordinary maintenance work on the green areas of Rome’s Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road

21 November 2025

The Ravenna-based company, which is part of the Greenway Group, is consolidating its presence in the domestic market while accelerating its international development plan in Europe and North America.

Ravenna, November 2025 – Ecogest SpA, a leading company in Italy and abroad in the maintenance of roadside and motorway greenery, has been awarded a contract by Anas SpA for the extraordinary maintenance of green spaces along the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) in Rome, one of the most strategic and busiest sections of the national road network. The €0.8 million project, which will last 12 months, represents a significant technical step: a redevelopment and vegetation safety operation in preparation for the future multi-year service.

“We have been closely monitoring this tender from the outset,” said Valerio Molinari, majority shareholder of the Ecogest Group, which is part of the Greenway Group. “After carrying out technical inspections along the ring road and the Cassia Bis and Fiumicino slip roads, we concluded that a different approach was required to the traditional concept of routine maintenance. In some sections, invasive vegetation limits visibility and creates potentially dangerous situations for users”.

The project involves a highly efficient operating model, incorporating vegetation safety measures, thinning and weed cutting, all of which are carried out using industrial-grade equipment. Some operations will be planned at night to minimise disruption to traffic and ensure complete safety.

“Having taken note of the preliminary inspections,’ Molinari continues, ‘we want the contracting authority to listen to us and follow our technical and operational instructions, with the support of the Traffic Police where necessary to carry out certain work at night. The goal is to redevelop the green heritage before the new season and then continue with efficient and consistent maintenance in 2026.”

International expansion and industrial growth

In parallel with strengthening its position in the domestic market, the group continues to expand its international presence.

With over 8,500 km of transport networks managed in Italy and an operational presence in five European countries, Ecogest is now the only Italian operator in the sector active in North America. The group has launched a medium-term investment plan for this market.

‘Canada and the United States represent the new frontier,’ explains Tommaso Molinari, head of overseas markets. ‘Since 2022, we have invested over $4 million in acquisitions and exporting European equipment and technologies that are still new overseas. Our North American group operates through a holding company that unites all our operating companies in Canada and the United States. Based on our Italian organisational model, this model is leading the group towards becoming a general contractor. The three-year programme includes investments totalling $3.5–4 million to achieve a market share of at least 45% of the Canadian national network. In the United States, where we have already set up a dedicated company, we are taking our first steps towards Georgia, Texas, Virginia and Tennessee, with the aim of achieving the same result by setting up an O&M business.

An evolving industrial and financial plan

Participation in the Anas tender in Rome is another step in the company’s plan to consolidate its business in Italy. This plan aims to integrate international growth with strengthening its presence in strategic public contracts.

Ecogest is part of Greenway Group, the holding company of the Molinari family. It closed 2024 with a consolidated turnover of around €20 million and has a three-year investment plan of €10 million to support innovation, process digitalisation and foreign development.

With a team of over 300 direct employees and a network of qualified industrial partners, Ecogest confirms its role as a key player in maintaining green areas alongside roads and highways. This is an increasingly strategic sector in terms of safety, sustainability, and the quality of infrastructure.

A model of sustainable growth

The Anas contract in Rome cements the position of the Ravenna-based group as a leading player in the Italian green and infrastructure sector.

The company stands out for its long-term industrial vision, which is based on three pillars: technical expertise, financial strength and sustainable internationalisation.

“Italy remains our starting point and reference point,” says Valerio Molinari, “but Ecogest’s future is global. Our goal is to export an efficient, sustainable and technologically advanced Italian business model that can generate value in any context.”

By consolidating its role as an Italian company with a global presence, Ecogest is confirming a trajectory of sustainable growth that combines industrial competitiveness, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
